HERMES LEADS NEW CNG VEHICLE TRIALS

Hermes UK, the leading consumer delivery company, is one of the first companies to trial the IVECO Eurocargo, a new 12 tonne vehicle, which runs on CNG (compressed natural gas), as part of its ongoing commitment to operating a greener fleet.

With 204hp and maximum torque at 750Nm, the Eurocargo boasts 35% less NOx emissions and 95% less particulate matter along with an 80% reduction in CO2 when compared to a traditional diesel vehicle.

Hermes already operates 90 CNG tractor units within its HGV fleet and uses electric vans for some of its deliveries in UK cities, including London. If the trial is successful, Hermes will be able to offer an alternative fuels vehicle option for all its journeys.

David Landy, Head of Fleet at Hermes, said: “We’re proud to be one of the most progressive in our sector when it comes to alternative fuels and this latest trial of a 12 tonne CNG vehicle will open up further opportunities to make our deliveries even greener – particularly the middle mile, which we know is an exciting prospect for our clients. We look forward to analysing the results as we continue to evolve our proposition when it comes to cleaner and greener deliveries across the UK.”

Robert Spittle, managing director of Guest Truck and Van: “Hermes has already embraced CNG technology within other parts of its fleet, so it’s our pleasure to help them explore ways to become even greener.”
