Queclink Wireless Solutions has introduced a solar-powered asset tracker that has been specifically developed for cross-border road and intermodal transport operations, addressing the evolving needs of the international freight marketplace. The cutting-edge device – suitable for non-powered trailers and containers – can operate autonomously for up to 10 years without manual recharging.
“The solar-powered asset tracker optimises the management of trailers and containers, providing valuable insights into utilisation, productivity and security,” explains Vernon Bonser, UK Sales Director Queclink Wireless Solutions. “The combination of solar power, durable design and advanced features makes it an ideal solution for modern road and intermodal transport needs, providing total visibility and peace of mind.”
The asset tracker offers customisable reporting intervals, making it possible to tailor the frequency of location updates based on specific trip needs. This means user can increase and reduce reporting during different stages of a journey to optimise the balance between tracking accuracy and battery usage. The device also possesses a built-in motion sensor that detects changes in transport mode, such as from truck to ship, resulting in automatic adjustments to reporting and further enhancing power management.
Enclosed in an IP67-rated waterproof casing and developed to be CE-and ATEX-complaint, the robust design ensures the device can withstand the harshest conditions and is suitable for use in hazardous environments. Meanwhile, its flat, streamlined shape allows for seamless attachment to most trailers and containers, easily mounted using either screws or magnets to cut costs on installation fees. A light sensor on the back of the device also provides detection of unauthorised removal or tampering, enabling prompt response to potential theft risks.
The asset tracker is equipped with BLE capabilities and serves as an ideal Bluetooth gateway, facilitating seamless integration with various Bluetooth accessories. The device also features Wi-Fi functionality, capable of scanning for whitelisted Wi-Fi MAC addresses, which means it switch to a battery-saving mode when secure networks are detected. Additionally, geo-fences can be configured to define safe zones, offering greater control over trailer and container management.
